Boudoir Excuses Debunked
Everyone makes excuses. It’s totally normal, especially when we are considering something outside our comfort zone. And most commonly, we make up all the reasons that we fail to take care of and to love ourselves. Things are crazy busy at work, we have to pick up/drop off SOMEONE, and it’s important to make time for our spouse 🙂 And when it comes to BOUDOIR EXCUSES, there are even more! “I want to lose some weight first.” or “I don’t have the money for that right now.” Well, this blog post is to remind you that, no matter the excuses you make up, that you deserve to love yourself, and that you can do this!

“I don’t have enough time for myself”
You know how the safety instructions go when you are traveling by plane? “Secure your own oxygen mask before helping others.” Well, that same goes for your mental health. If you are not taking care of yourself, you won’t have anything to give to others. I understand that this can be VERY hard to do, because I am HORRIBLE at giving myself permission to slow down, which is why it’s important to me that I share this with all of you. I make all of these same excuses, and as a small business owner the affects and impact are amplified. Sometimes I need someone to actually tell me to take a break and relax for a minute.
The beauty of a boudoir photo shoot is that you are able to take a few hours to slow down and breathe…and to love yourself. Consider all of the energy and anxiety you’ll save when you stop comparing yourself to some arbitrary, ridiculous “definition” of beauty, and when you stop worrying about what ANYBODY thinks about you and how you look. When you are in the studio, in the midst of your session, you will get in touch with the source of your true beauty and strength, and you will feel like an enormous mental weight has been lifted.
Taking time for ourselves is critical. SO why not do it right, have an amazing experience and get glammed up for once?
“I’m not where I want to be weight-wise/I don’t fit the media’s idea of a good enough size”
Bullshit! Did you know that only 5% of American women naturally posses the body type that is depicted in advertising as the “ideal”? JUST FIVE PERCENT!
I say this over and over (NOT sorry!) but you do NOT have to be a certain size to love yourself. You do NOT have to fit some arbitrary and unrealistic idea of the perfect body to love YOUR body. No two women are the same, so you do NOT need to compare yourself to anyone else.
Having a goal for improved health is a wonderful thing, but hating your body/yourself while you work toward that goal is messed up! True peace and happiness can be found in loving yourself through every step of your journey. Your body has carried you through so many things to bring you to this point. You should be proud of where you have come from, of where you are and of where you are going. Do a boudoir photo shoot now – to feel amazing about yourself and celebrate yourself in your current beauty and strength. And do another one when you have reached those health/fitness goals to celebrate those accomplishments!
“I never feel sexy or sensual anymore, so a boudoir photo shoot must not be for me.”
Um…double bullshit.
WRONG!
Life can get crazy busy because of health/family/work and we often lose touch with ourselves, our femininity and our sexuality. It happens. It’s normal. It’s okay. A boudoir photo shoot can be an amazing way to put some fire back into your life and to reconnect with part of you that has been dormant or neglected for a while. And it’s a great way to reignite that fire in your relationship, too!
Keep in mind — sexy clothing and lingerie is NOT a requirement. We can design a wardrobe that truly suits your personality, if lingerie isn’t your thing. I’m always here to help you with wardrobe and to find the perfect outfits for your dream photo shoot, so if you need ideas, I’ve got you! “I have nothing to wear and don’t know how to shop for this type of photo shoot.”
Part of feeling beautiful is also feeling comfortable, in your outfits and in your own skin. If lingerie isn’t your thing, let’s brainstorm to think outside the box. Lace and garter belts aren’t the only way to dress for a boudoir shoot. Your favorite denim or leather jacket with a peek-a-boo bra might be just the thing to make you feel like a star in front of the camera.
Whatever feels sexy to you is probably a better apparel choice anyway. Maybe you feel beautiful in your most loved pair of jeans, a men’s button-down shirt, or even nothing at all. A boudoir photo shoot is not about buying all new clothes or dressing for a part, it is about feeling beautiful just as you are.
AND….I consult with every client on wardrobe, so you don;t have to figure any of this out for yourself. I’m here to help!
